Welcome to Year 1 Class 2017-2018!
The Great Fire of London
Year 1 have been learning about the Great Fire of London that took place in 1666.
They created vibrant pictures using a sponging technique and with silhouettes of buildings you can see the dramatic burning scene that would have been visible at the time.
We have been looking at the signs of Autumn which inspired us to write about
Autumn in our literacy lessons.
Purple4Polio Crocus Planting
Year 1 really enjoyed taking their part in this Rotary event, part of their
campaign to eradicate polio.
Giraffes Can't Dance
We looked at the story "Giraffes Can't Dance" then wrote about something we enjoy doing.
Our writing is displayed on our collaged giraffe heads which make for a striking display.
The Three Little Pigs
We looked at this traditional tale in literacy.
This is our display of collaged characters, "Wanted" posters and character speech bubbles. You will also notice our storyboard, made up of symbols which we use as prompts
to help us re-tell the story.
You will see we have also been thinking about connectives.

Visit to Umberslade Farm
We went on a visit to this big working farm and enjoyed a day getting to learn about a variety of farm animals and how the farmer cares for them.
There were several hands on opportunities like handling a guinea pig, a rabbit and also meeting a very friendly white rat.
We have been learning about plants as part of our topic work and created this beautiful display of collaged sunflowers for which we made labels.
During our literacy lessons we have written poetry using similes.

Houses and Homes
As part of our topic work we made these colourful 3D models of houses.
It's A Cracker!
We really enjoyed taking part in this musical production and looked
splendid in our Christmas jumpers.
Our special role was to perform the song "Giving" on stage, the words of
which remind us that it is better to give than to receive.
Christmas Art Workshop Day
The whole school enjoyed a special day of activities to coincide with
the Children in Need appeal.
2d Shape Pictures
In our maths lessons we have been looking at a range of 2d shapes.
We created this wonderful display of pictures made from cut-out 2d shapes.
The children had some wonderful ideas and came up with a range of interesting subjects in their pictures. Some examples are: a snowman, a Party Bus, flowers
as well as cars and houses.
